Three Things You NEED To Know About Your Home in 2018

1. New Laws Regarding Solar Panel Installation
A new law being debated in the California legislature would require all new home construction to be fitted with solar panels producing renewable energy. These laws and regulations would affect homeowners and new property construction of homes, apartments, and all types of residential buildings. In the likely scenario that the legislation passes, new homes and housing developments will be required to carry solar panel installations. And it’s just as likely that it will soon be required for all homes to have solar panels installed or face green energy fees and fines. Be sure to reach out to your HOA to see what action your community plans to do with these new eco-friendly laws seeming more and more inevitable.

2.  California's landmark Proposition 13 Property Tax
The proposed bill that is going to be on the statewide ballot this November is aiming to extend breaks to young homeowners who sell their residence and buy a new one. The proposal, which destined for the November 2018 statewide ballot, would allow homeowners of any age to carry a portion of their existing property tax rate across county lines when they purchase a new home. Homeowners often are reluctant to switch houses, given that Proposition 13's cap on annual property taxes ends once they sell and move somewhere else. "A lot of people kind of feel locked into their properties," said Alex Creel, a lobbyist for the California Assn. of Realtors, who filed the proposed initiative. "This will free up those folks." If you are looking to move into a new community here is all the more reason to pull the trigger!

3. Audit and Adjust Your Financials Before You Share Them
Obviously, few people actually enjoy going through their finances each year, however it is an unavoidable part of life. Thankfully there are people who like it more than others. But before you hand off your documents to a trusted financial professional, it is so important to make sure that the information on that paperwork accurately reflects your current situation. It leaves a lot of room for error and can be a real headache down the road if you don’t catch any mistakes, costing you additional time and money. With 2018 tax season right around the corner, it’s a great time to get ahead. And if you don’t have a trusted financial professional at this point, it can definitely be worth your while to get that extra set of eyes from those wonderful people who specialize in helping people just like you.
